This year is the quarter century mark for the Southwest Peruvian Horse Club, the
oldest Peruvian Horse Club in Texas. Over the years the Southwest club has been
one of the strongest, most active clubs in the breed. At one time the gelding
stakes class had purses of $20,000 with the show being the largest in the
country. Southwest club has had some incredible board members over the years
that have made it successful. Unfortunately these board members have not had new
energetic people stepping up to the plate to take over.
The last few years the Southwest board has struggled along with Louis Alveraz
doing most of the work. He has asked me to please replace him with a new fresh
board member as he is burned out. Also Dick Kirby a long time member has ask to
be replaced because his wife, Roberta Kirby has had serious health problems and
is facing a long recovery time. Thanks from all of the members for the time
Louis and Dick has given to the club and the quick return of good health for
Dick Sisson and Tonya Egger have been appointed to fill the vacant positions,
with Janelle Dapello, Ray Wood and I completing the board. In September ? the
ballots will go out for the Southwest election. The 2 spots occupied by Dick and
Tonya will be up for reelection. If you are interested in a seat on the board,
send your nomination to ?
This yearís 25th Southwest Show will be held in conjunction with the Camino Real
Show, with Lone Star being a supporting sponsor. We hope that everyone will
bring horses, to make this ďTexas RoundupĒ the biggest show of the year. A big
THANK YOU! For Alice Wolf and the Camino Real board is due for helping make this
show possible. Although the Lone Star Club will not have a show this year, the
board has pledged its support of the Texas Roundup with itís money and time
spent by itís board members to help make the show a success.
I canít say this any better than Lyndon Wright in his Lone Star presidentís
As we look forward to the coming months we seek the input of all
of our members. Would you like to have a Spring show? Where and
when? Would you like to have a trail ride? How about schooling
show or clinic? Give us your thoughts. Also, please think about
the members that you would like to see serving on the Board. Call
me or any other Board member to nominate someone. We will conduct
an election by mail before the end of the year.
A club is only as strong as its membership, support Southwest with classes
sponsorships for the show, ideas, and volunteering your time.
Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
